Tuesday 31 January

Packed quite a bit in today; some media, a funeral, and went a rock n roll gig that sounded a lot like a very long car commercial (Noel Gallagher).

Here's me freezing my fajutz off in St Kilda. Black boots from DJs last year (they're baaaaack), black Zara pencil skirt I got for 20 or 30 euros last year (can't remember if I've even washed it yet - maybe that can be my weekend activity), khaki singlet I got from Esprit in Honkers 5 years ago, black Veronkia Maine sheer top, freebie blue scarf from Cotton On, black cardy from Mango in Roma, topped off with the yellow earrings Trace gave me for my bday last year. They were a little ray of light on an otherwise pretty fricken grim day.

Monday 30 January

Dressed a little bit to the elevens today, as I went to see a play with mi madre after work. Coz I am civilized n that, aye??

We went and saw the Summer of the Seventeenth Doll. It was genuinely brilliant, though man it gave me some wacked out dreams.

Monsoon dress that was marked down ridiculously to under 40 quid, tan t-bar wedges that were a tenner, and this jacket you've probably not seen before- brown tailored jacket, quite short (not cropped though) with white striped lining and a neat little pocket. Handsome Dan bought it for me a few years ago now, I leave it at work for emergencies such as needing to look respectable. Got a bit chilly when the wind picked up today so I was glad to have it! It fits perfectly - still. Thanks povo.

Ohhh and it would be remiss of me not to mention a significant new life obstacle has been placed in my way - my barista has done a runner! Again! And the new guy's coffee is shit, and I know in my waters it's going to be a grinding week ahead. Argh!

Sunday 29 January

Hot as hell today!! Mum and I trekked out to Heidelberg and went to the Heide Museum of Modern Art, because we are tres civilised (though she does cramp my style a bit from time to time... ahem).

I wore a frock for the ocassion; my lovely light summer paisley patterned Monsoon dress, which I am certainly making the most of.  Bit disturbed at how it's fitting across the boobs at the moment, just quietly.

saturday january twenty eight

here's phoebs and angie. phoebs recently dyed her hair the same shade of red as her momma. i went round to their for a BBQ yesterday and had a great time - it ended with us watching celebrity wife swap - flava flav and gary bussey. was pretty amazing.

stef rolled in dressed to the elevens as always. her partner won't let her wear this t-shirt when she's going out, so going from her place to her sister ange's place was an opportunity too good to miss! stef is doing a facebook outfit challenge with two friends this year - one challenge a week (that's 52 in all). this challenge is called casual BBQ, and it was casual, but this girl cannot really dress down. she looked amazing.

here's me. i wore jeans to avoid getting bitten by mozzies, but we stayed out sitting in the back yard till late and got bitten to death anyways. i have woken up today (sun) without a hangover and almost punched the air in happiness when i did my morning scan of my body for pain and realised i wasn't in any.

Saturday 28 January

Glorious day here today! Spent much of it wandering around Fitzroy with Mum. We looked at a lot of frocks; I came this close to buying a gorgeous floral lemon one but for some reason couldn't go through with it. Not sure why, as it was tailored, extremely flattering, and most importantly of all marked down to a bargain price of 99 dollar from 149 at a place called Halsinky. I think I've still got the guilts about owning 22 dresses!

Later that night I went to a gig though, so dressed up; you've seen this dress once before I believe. It's from Revival, was probably 40 bucks I'd say? Super cute, but for the love of god it is far too short to feel genuinely comfortable in. I'm wearing earrings George made me a bajillion years ago. Tan belt matched the tan flats, which evidently you can't see. Paisley... frills... I think I am becoming predictable!

My mama is wearing a kinda zebra striped thing- we all know how I feel about animal print but I think she looks awesome nonetheless.

Friday 27 January

My workplace was a ghost town today; not much fun at all. Lots of people had a 4 day long weekend, but I soldiered on without a word of complaint.

Baa haaa haaaaaa.

Not quite as casual as most Friday's today; wearing Lizzie's black a-line skirt (free! free!), brown sheer top from Trace (free! free!) and tan flats - 15 dollar but I would have paid 8 times that given the amount of wear I've had out of them.

For the record, I am not covered in shit. I am just in my work changeroom, a rather unpleasant place truth be told. It has unwashed towels from sweaty gym-going men in it, and it doesn't appear to ever get cleaned, mirror included.

thursday january twenty-six

M! So cute. Had brekky with the girls on Straya Day.

Z. I'm officially her sugar aunty now.

and me later, not doing much at all.

Thursday 26 January

Really really really needed a day off today, so this was well timed. Spent it with my mum, who arrived last night, bearing the news that she is staying 11 days.

11 days. For reals. In my shitty little one bedder. It's going to be... interesting.

Anyways, today we lunched with my uncle in the city, which was a wierd mix of ghost town (CBD) and jam packed (around the river and Fed Square - yowsers). We popped into a sunny North Fitz beer garden when it became apparen there wasn't a spare millimetre in Ed Gardens - I've never seen anything like it!

Anyhey, here's a little self portrait from the day's end; red skirt that was 8 dollar second hand in Rozelle, black singlet that was about 10 Singapore dollars (3 guesses where I got it) and the fabric button brooch George got me for Christmas. I had brown plait sandals on too, and in retrospect notice that I looked a bit like a walking Aboriginal flag totally by accident.

wednesday january twenty-five

dan findlay was my unofficial date for the Rolling Stone Awards on Wednesday night. Here's us doing a photo shoot I like to call Holy Crotch. He was stylin in all black.

You get the idea. I'm in my Leona Edminston dress, brown boots from Holland and FCUK jacket (was raining like nobody's business). Someone took my photo for a Sunday paper and I am hoping I do not make it in - I thought it was for RS. I tried to tell the photographer I wasn't 'anybody' but i don't think he knew who anybody was so he didn't seem to mind.

Wednesday 25 January

There was one small good thing that happened today - Skye wore these brilliant shoes. They are different shades of pink and I love everything about them.

Dredging my brain, I think the story of these shoes is that she decided to treat herself to a nice new pair of shoes for her 30th birthday party- no holds barred price-wise, because someone had given her a dress (or maybe the dress was her Mum's wedding dress?) - and she came across this perfect pair for a measly 15 bucks.

OK Skye hit me - is any element of what I've written correct?

Tuesday 24 January

The calm before the storm.

Hanging out in my office wearing the green top I got last year but have only worn a couple of times (Zara, 20 euros??), with white checked Mango skirt (15 euros?? Something like that). 10 quid t-bone wedge heels.

tuesday january twenty-four

I got hit by a cyclist on Tuesday morning just as I stepped onto the footpath. I have a very bruised legs and a dead arm. Was not the best start to the day I have had, gotta say. I turned around and went back home, after calling Sarah who begged me to stop laughing hysterically. It was the shock, you see.

I got a headbutt to the cheek and thrown to the ground. Here's me with my sad face on (and the makings of a bruised cheek).

Here's the start of the bruise on my thigh.

I did make it into work, in the end but was a bit dazed and confused. I'm wearing a skirt I can't remember where I got it from, green singlet and black cardy. Thongs are havianas i bought at sydney airport, for $20, i think.

Monday 23 January

Lucky I didn't bet any money on this - here I am back in the boring office environs, again!

I'm pulling my freaking gut in, thus the face. Same shoes as yesterday, the black pencil skirt, white singlet that is far too long and ridiculously bunched in the middle, adding to the paunch, and the cream silk Veronika Maine top I got in Bondiii in late 2010. Not my best look but not to worry, tomorrow is another day :)

sunday january twenty two

What a blinder of a sunday. It started with an ocean swim, v choppy conditions (Narissa says I always say that) and my uncle ken came down to cheer me on. Sadly, despite his binoculars (Canon ones from the 1960s), neither him nor my mum and her new boyf were awaiting me at the finish line - they all showed up some time later. Never mind. I'm not doing it for the glory.... much.

Here's me and uncle ken at brekky. I'm wearing a dress I bought for 25 euro from a market in Amsterdam on my 28th birthday. Not to be too specific, or anything.

Here's Narissa. The cheeky monkey tempted me with afternoon beers at the Courthouse and... there went the afternoon. We had people drift in and then called Bernie for an emergency BBQ and ended the Sunday night in quite the state. No mind.... here's us, fresh.

Wardrobe change .... I know, right? I am just like Shakira. The top I bought from Kmart late last year (still got the monopoly on that place), skirt also from Amsterdam, beads from a shop on Enmore Road (3 dollar).

Here's Ed.

Adam would only let me take a photo of his watch... a gift for his 40th birthday last year from his beloved, Julz.

Adam and his beloved, Julz.

Here's Julzie and I have to admit, this shot was staged so i could take it as she passed by the busker. Addy went back and gave him $2 for being in a photo. Julz's dress - although you can't see the detail here is v special, cut in an unusual way and v flattering. She bought it in paris.

Here's bernie and patrick, who arrived home just as the horde descended on their house. Tremendous BBQ, company... just tremendous. But note to self: do not try to cram an entire weekend's worth of fun into the final eight hours. All of us had had quiet saturday nights and we really made up for it Sunday night.

Sunday 22 January

If you've read yesterday's post, I don't need to tell you how today started out.

Many hours later, here I am upright in front of an interesting wall at the Abbotsford Convent. They have an open air cinema there over summer; on a Sunday afternoon you can eat, drink, listen to music, be merry AND play ping pong. All in an ex-nunnery! Genius.

Because I hadn't had enough sport this weekend, I went and saw Fire in Babylon, about the West Indes cricket team. It was excellent; if you are my vintage it will probably bring back the same memories and feeling as it did for me. Clapping eyes on Viv Richards bought it all flooding back.

It was such a lovely evening and I was feeling so much better that I decided to dress up. Here is the 22nd dress I own; forgot to count it first time round. Bit of a bad angle around the middle, but you get the drift. Thoughts?

It's from Leona Edmonson; it's skye blue and feels 80s, which I guess makes it polyester. I like the shoestring straps and the slight cowl bit at the front - don't tend to wear stuff like that much. 74 big ones well spent. Also note the presence of a small heel - ooh la la! My 10 quid shoes I got in the UK a few years back.

saturday jan twenty one

i'm at dinner for rein's birthday at a new japanese place in erskinville. it's very good. i'm wearing the black dress sarah reminded me of that i bought at birkenhead point portmans, of all places, for $50 in about 2003.

This is Rachel, Em's friend. Dress and bangles from made on ghetto end of king street.

Saturday 21 January

Today started unreasonably early with boot camp. I did not take a photo and if I had have, I would have deleted it by now. It was sweaty, it was hard, it was ugly, it was all Lach's fault.

Spent a large part of today 'at the tennis'. Now, I say 'at the tennis', but in actual fact I was at the bar at the tennis. For around 8 hours. In the sun, drinking warm expensive beer. Lets just guess how that turned out for me.

Matt, Jacqui, the artist formerly known as Double Denim, and Libby. All wearing matching Heineken fedoras.

A close up of that pink flamingo shirt. I did up that stray button a few times, and it was promptly undone. I tried. Note they are made of bits of coconut shell.

I can't remember the name of the lady on the left; possibly Kim? Anyways, her onesie is from Brazil. If my beer addled brain serves me correctly, she owns 12 or 13 onesies.

Can you believe that?? Seriously! She wore it well too. She's sitting with the delightful Claire and Andy, who were in true summer outfits.

Got this shirt on Friday afternoon on sale at Review. It was 150 dollar - seriously, who would pay that?? - but was reduced to 40 dollar, which is far more reasonable. It's got quite a cute little frill on the front and the pattern is little rosettes. It's got clear buttons too, I''m pretty sure. Teamed with my Dorothy Perkins denim skirt I got for around 40 Singapore dollar from memory, plus the tan flats AGAIN.. Note the earrings - cute anchor ones from Tarz I got for my birthday.

And, of course, the fedora.

friday january twenty

here's me on king st last night, outside the italian bowl where karen and i ducked for some dinner mid hair-dye (me) at head over heels. i'm wearing a pyjama top from a peter alexander pair my sister gave me ages ago- the cat is made of sequins and rather a lot have fallen off. jeans, black flats from witchery.

karen was looking A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. short tights from dangerfield with a silky black dress karen can't remember where from. she's got a H&M scarf in her hair which was a gift from a client. bag from mimco.

tiny! she's on a cleanse and was looking marvellously radiant sporting a diet coke. dress from mod cloth, online from the states. it has these lovely fifties layered skirts underneath.

narissa! have given her the dresses challenge .... (58, skye!) and was going to count them. she reckons it's in the 50s, too. this one is from dangerfield.

me! look at karen's styling of my hair.... kimmy asked me if it was real or extensions. we were out celebrating gab's birthday, who i couldn't catch a shot of. text it in, karen!

karen and me. she was channelling rizzo from grease with a little frenchie thrown in for good measure.

Friday 20 January

Tres unblogworthy today sorry DTTErs.

Frill neck lizard shirt I got in Athens a year and a half ago, Zara jeans I got a few months ago. I'm flopped on the couch on Friday afternoon. On the upside, at least my pic wasn't next to my desk, right?

Meanwhile, Handsome Dan sent me a couple of pics Friday night. I very nearly lost control of my bladder. I'm guessing he was going to a dress up party. Would love to know the theme, given everyone else seems to be dressed as a pop star.

If I were to hazard a guess I would say we have Kenny G, Katy Perry, Bono, someone from Sepultura, and Yothu Yindi in da house. Dan, can you enlighten us please??

thursday january nineteen

These are Bernie's new shoes. She bought them from Mollini for a cool one hundred and was so excited she put them on right away (I always do that, too). Very cute - and nice pedi, lady. I also like that there is a bottle of wine in the background.

Here's me late thursday evening. Not long before or after Skyping Sarah, actually. I broke my run of dresses today with a t-shrt (kmart, $10) and grey woollen skirt from Apollo Bay op shop. Green havianas. Meh. Wasn't feeling it.

Thursday 19 January

Quite a few people have commented on my stripey top today; it's been quite nice really. I thought I was a bit underdressed for work, but hey, in the community sector that's just how we roll. Spent lunchtime out in the sunshine - hurrah - but I seem to have got all the grass clippings off me, which is good to see.

Can't remember how much the stripey top was - maybe 13 euros? From Pimkie in Germany, last July. The black skirt is courtesy of Lizzie, gifted a few years ago, and yeah that's the same white singlet and tan shoes as yesterday. I seem to have worn them no less than 3 days this week - oops! Will have to plan better for tomorrow.

And looky look what I am gazing upon in the background eh?

Hit me Elise - what you got today?

wednesday january eighteen

Here's me in my deadline hat - wanted a close up to show you the cute little sombrero necklace my mum got me for Xmas. I'm also wearing my nametag - the blue string. I had a pretty bad realisation mid afternoon that I was indeed back into the swing of things and worse, that i was going to be required to show up every weekday, with a few exceptions, for the rest of the year.

Jonathan isn't sweating it. He says his shirt is probably his dad's. Vintage.

Had lunch with the beautiful Mel, who is eight weeks away from her second child making an appearance. She's in a gorgeous Sarah Jane floaty dress that she bought from a sale store that pops up on the ghetto end of King Street every summer. Was $50.

Babysat my two favourite bruisers on Weds night as it was Reinski's birthday. Happy birthday, Ski! They're both dressed in Dora and if they look distracted it's because Carebears is on and they are.

Here's me in the Vogel's kitchen, full length dress shot. I bought this one at Apple Pie fashions at the posh end of King Street for about $80.
